Neural Music Information Retrieval

This research aims to investigate how the brain processes music by analyzing brain activity using Electroencephalography (EEG). During the experiment, you will be asked to listen to and imagine short music segments while we record your brain activity. Our goal is to develop a decoding model, via Artificial Intelligence, that can reconstruct the sound you were listening to, or imagining, using your brain signals. We will also evaluate your Music Expertise level and Music Imagery Ability as they will be relevant factors in your brain response.

Relevant information:

  • Who can participate?
We are looking for adults (over 18 years old) fluent in Italian, German, or English, that don’t have hearing problems or neurologic illnesses (such as Epilepsy, Autism or Alzheimer’s disease).
  • What is expected from you?
The experiment consists of two different parts: an initial pre-screening in which we assess if you fulfill our inclusion criteria, and the experiment per se. In this second part, your electrophysiological signals will be recorded while you listen to or imagine short melodies.
  • Where would you have to go?
The first part (pre-screening) will be done online, so you can do it wherever you like. If you meet the criteria to proceed to the next stage, we will invite you to come to NOI Techpark (Via Alessandro Volta, 13, 39100 Bolzano BZ).
